Monopol is one of Sweden’s most public typefaces. It’s produced for Systembolaget, the Swedish stateowned alcohol monopoly, and used throughout the country from shop signs and everything in store, to all print and digital communication. The shape is based on legibility fonts from the late 19th century, originating from England, thus contemporary with the origins of the monopoly. Since its first incarnation in 2003, the font has been expanded, weights have been added and it’s now also used throughout Systembolaget’s website. It further includes a set of symbols and ideograms unique to Systembolaget. I have made all parts of the font, both type design, font technology and web specifics. The identity made by F&B Happy was given the Golden Egg Diploma 2006.
